Pressure dependence of the magnetization in the ferromagnetic superconductor UGe2.
We report measurements of the pressure dependence of the low-temperature magnetization that show that the two pressure induced magnetic transitions in UGe2 are of first order. Further, the pressure dependence of the uniform susceptibility relative to the superconducting transition is not as expected if the latter is driven by the proximity to a ferromagnetic quantum critical point. Our data ins...
متن کاملExternal-Field-Induced Tricritical Point in a Fluctuation-Driven Nematic–Smectic-A Transition
We study theoretically the effect of an external field on the nematic–smectic-A transition close to the tricritical point, where fluctuation effects govern the qualitative behavior of the transition. An external field suppresses nematic-director fluctuations by making them massive. For a fluctuation-driven firstorder transition, we show that an external field can drive the transition second ord...
متن کاملFirst-order superconducting transition near a ferromagnetic quantum critical point.
We address the issue of how triplet superconductivity emerges in an electronic system near a ferromagnetic quantum critical point (FQCP). Previous studies found that the superconducting transition is of second order, and T(c) is strongly reduced near the FQCP due to pair-breaking effects from thermal spin fluctuations. In contrast, we demonstrate that near the FQCP, the system avoids pair-break...
متن کاملTricritical point in explosive percolation.
The suitable interpolation between classical percolation and a special variant of explosive percolation enables the explicit realization of a tricritical percolation point. With high-precision simulations of the order parameter and the second moment of the cluster size distribution a fully consistent tricritical scaling scenario emerges yielding the tricritical crossover exponent 1/φ(t)=1.8 ± 0.1.
متن کاملTricritical point in heterogeneous k-core percolation.
k-core percolation is an extension of the concept of classical percolation and is particularly relevant to understanding the resilience of complex networks under random damage. A new analytical formalism has been recently proposed to deal with heterogeneous k-cores, where each vertex is assigned a local threshold k(i). In this Letter we identify a binary mixture of heterogeneous k-cores which e...
